25NOV SAS' 4th MD-80 SE-DIN has been upgraded with VDL-2 AOA datalink capability. See SAS Aircraft Fleet. The MD-80 VDL-2 configuration is identical to SAS' B737NG aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with a Rockwell-Collins CMU-900 communications management unit, a VHF-920 digital radio and an APM-900 aircraft personality module. AOC software version SAS-5D is installed.

10NOV ARINC has deployed new VHF ground stations at BLQ, Bologna, Italy and FCO, Rome-Fiumicino, Italy. See Ground Stations.
B737s LN-RNN and LN-RNO have been transferred to SAS Braathens. Both are equipped with the latest VDL-2 avionics. See SAS Braathens Aircraft Fleet.
08NOV Blue 1 Avro RJ aircraft are being updated with AOC version KF-HB-508. See Blue 1 Aircraft Fleet for status and the AOC Overview page.  A description of Q400 AOC U1C is also available (see News item 28OCT).
28OCT Q400 aircraft are being updated with AOC version U1C. See SAS Aircraft Fleet for status.
24OCT On 19OCT a SAS B737-600 aircraft transmitted the first live Smiths FMS 4D-trajectory flight plan intent downlink. The messages are sent on ACARS.
24OCT MD-80 and B737NG fleets are being updated with ACARS AOC sw versions SAS-4D and SAS-5D. See also the AOC Overview page for more information. One change with this AOC version is a new Fuel Release application aimed at improving the ground handling process .

10OCT B737 OY-KKS has been updated to VDL-2. See SAS Aircraft Fleet.
03OCT SAS aircraft equipped with Inmarsat Satcom systems recently changed communications service provider to ARINC/Telenor. A total of 7 Airbus A340 and 4 A330 were involved. Satcom provides ACARS data communications in remote areas as well as passenger and cockpit  telephony.

15SEP B737s LN-RCX, LN-RCZ and LN-RPM have been updated to VDL-2 AOA. See SAS Aircraft Fleet.
26AUG SAS' 3rd MD-80 LN-RMR has been upgraded with VDL-2 AOA datalink capability. See SAS Aircraft Fleet. The MD-80 VDL-2 configuration is identical to SAS' B737NG aircraft. Upgrade of the B737NG fleet to the VDL-2 configuration  takes place in parallell.
ARINC deployed a VHF ground station at KUO, Kuopio, Finland. The destination is served by Blue 1 airlines.
19JUL DCL Departure Clearance is now available at Amsterdam-Schiphol airport AMS/EHAM. See the Departure Clearance page for further information.
ARINC has deployed a VHF ground station at SKG, Thessaloniki, Greece
06JUL ARINC has deployed a new VHF ground station at MAH, Mahon, Menorca, Spain. See Ground Stations.
B737 LN-RPA has been updated with Link2000 CPDLC functionality (a software update).
MD-80s LN-ROM and LN-ROO are dry-leased to Spanair. See Aircraft Fleet.
22JUN Updated the SAS Aircraft Fleet list with additional info (manufacturer's serial number). Facilitates aircraft tracking in connection with re-registrations and leases.

B737-683 LN-RPK has been transferred to SAS Braathens. She is the 2nd of 25 B737NGs to be transferred from SAS during 2005. See the SAS Braathens ACARS fleet page
20APR D-ATIS is operational at the following airports in Finland: Helsinki, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Mariehamn, Oulu, Pori, Rovaniemi, Tampere, Turku and Vaasa.

  19JAN Mini-ACMS installation in the MD-80 fleet is progressing. The latest installations are on LN-RMR and OY-KHP. See also SAS Aircraft Fleet.
  17JAN A further two B737NG aircraft, LN-RRS and OY-KKI, have been upgraded with VDL-2 AOA capability.
All SAS B737 and MD-80 aircraft are in process of being upgraded with VDL-2/AOA capability which brings increased communications performance and lower cost. In addition, 20 of these aircraft are in addition equipped with ATN/Link2000 capability.

  13JAN A new application - Crew Next Duty - will be activated shortly. The message is uplinked automatically after arrival (parking - In event) at four stations: ARN, CPH, GOT and OSL. The Crew Next Duty message contains information about the next flight number, parking gate and aircraft registration for all active and passive crew members on board. Only crew members onboard who have active flight duty next are included at this time. A request function will be activated later.
  10JAN ACARS played a role role in providing support for SAS' evacuation flights to Thailand after the Dec 26 earthquake/tsunami disaster. Non-stop flights were performed with A340s and A330s. In addition several evacuation flights were made with B737s and MD-80s to Bangkok/Phuket via Dubai.
Departure Clearance at Munich, Germany, became operational shortly before Christmas.
B737s LN-RPN and LN-RRM have been upgraded to VDL-2 AOA. See SAS Aircraft Fleet.
Installation of Mini-ACMS in the MD-80 fleet is making progress. Some 12 aircraft completed to date. The Mini-ACMS is an embedded application in the Rockwell Collins DLM-900 and CMU-900 MU/CMU. See SAS Aircraft Fleet.
  01JAN05 Happy New Year 2005!
Looking back, 2004 was another productive year for SAS Datalink. A number of goals/milestones were achieved, including:
- Started operational use of Eurocontrol Link2000 CPDLC and equipped 20 B737 aircraft with VDL-2/AOA/ATN/CPDLC capability by year's end.
- Transition to new ARINC European frequency 131.825 MHz.
- Transition to Universal Unilink UL-700 ACARS on the Dash-8-Q400 fleet.
- First MD-80 installation of VDL-2 AOA.
- Introduction of Mini-ACMS on the MD-80 fleet.
- Implementation of Landing Pilot application.
- Implementation of "No ACARS" advisory message.
- Spanair ACARS-fleet integrated and supported by HERMES.
- Initial HERMES services for Braathens fleet.
  21DEC04 B737s LN-RPY and LN-RRT have been upgraded with VDL-2 and ATN Core software. See also the Link2000/CPDLC page and SAS Aircraft Fleet.
  16DEC04 B737s SE-DNT and LN-RRR have been upgraded with VDL-2 and ATN Core software. See also the Link2000/CPDLC page and SAS Aircraft Fleet.
HERMES provides TRIN information (passenger transfer information) to the Braathens fleet since last week.
  08DEC B737s OY-KKH, SE-DNU, LN-RCW and LN-RPW have been upgraded with VDL-2 and ATN Core software. See also the Link2000/CPDLC page and SAS Aircraft Fleet.
  02DEC The SAS HERMES ground datalink system began providing limited ACARS services to Braathens 01DEC. Acars-Loadsheet, Notoc and Freetext messages are supported initially. Passenger connections (TRIN) will be opened up shortly. The available Acars services are limted with respect to the different avionics installed in the Braathens fleet.
Initial SAS HERMES services for SPANAIR became operational earlier this week.
The SAS Airbus fleets have now all been updated with AOC SAS-H3 -503.
